history project

New Dorp Lane is the center of the town. Bright holiday lights line the streets in the winter and stores decorate their windows. Kids run into the library with joy and go across the street for some delicious ice cream. Life is great in New Dorp.

Old houses are perfect for a small town vibe, though it is in a large city. Trees add a home-y feel and make you feel welcomed. The trees line the street perfectly and somehow frame the beauty of the neighborhood.

Large lawns are a signature look for the oldest homes in the area. A backyard and a few trees perfect the idea.

Large driveways and beautiful porches are another look for the old homes, the better homes.

A few years ago, town houses began being built. Many of them looking like they were a copied and pasted version of the ones next door.

New houses were being built on the large grassy lawns. For sale signs were everywhere.

Old homes were being torn down and turned into empty dirty pits. What a beautiful site to see across the street everyday.

Construction was loud and obnoxious. The sidewalks were torn apart and caution tape marked them off.

Large garbage containers were almost on every block. Ugly large bulky metal containers to put garbage from construction sites in.

Across from Miller Field and New Dorp High School are the cloned townhouses. Each one looking exactly the same. The Waldbaums that had been in its place was burned down and is now part parking lot/ part town home collection.

Walking home from school everyday leads towards this construction site. It's been going on for a few years. Looks like quite a prison. When are they putting the barred windows up?

The construction site is blocked by a graffiti fence. The sidewalks surrounding it are covered in mud and remains of concrete used on the building making it hard to walk past.

Right off New Dorp Lane are two construction sites right next to each other. The sound of construction is way too loud. Not to mention the lack of sidewalk for pedestrians at this busy intersection.

This site is blocking off the sidewalk for everyone who needs it. It's very dangerous to j-walk here because it is a very busy street. The caution signs may warn you about the construction on the building, but how about the warning about a car coming at you when you are trying to get around the sidewalk-blocker.
